Biblical Love Commands:
For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love. May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Then, bearing the fruit of love becomes supernaturally natural to us because it is powered by God’s love. In both commands, the English translation ‘love’ translates the Greek verb agapao. God is rich in unfailing love to all who love Him, trust Him, confess their sins, experience via His forgiveness, and obey Him wholeheartedly. It is the chief fruit of the Holy Spirit at work in and through our lives. Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. ‘This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Now, to be clear, there are some commands in the Old Testament which applied only to the people of Israel and are not binding on Christians today. They served to guide Israel on how to live in a manner that pleased the Lord in their unique situation. Nevertheless, we can still learn a great deal about God from these commands.
