It contains numerous islands, the largest of which is Ironbound Island. The highest elevation of the islands in the bay is found on Jordan Island. The largest town on the bay is Bar Harbor, on Mount Desert Island. Our comfortable downstairs common areas both inside the restaurant or outside is where guests can relax over food and drink. At Ironbound, we have lots of space with no crowding for your safety and comfort in both the restaurant and inn rooms. The inn offers comfort and privacy with a casual, upscale vibe. Our smash burgers are the rave, as well as fresh dinner salads, Finnan Haddie, and Lobster Mac & Cheese. House specialties include generous dinner salads, Mussel Frites, Fresh Halibut and Seafood Pappardelle to name a few. The casual dining rooms are of an old-world charm, where a large fireplace welcomes our guests into a casual, thoughtfully decorated space. Our restaurant offers a creative menu of modern, American cuisine from appetizers to dinner salads to comfort food to full entrees. We border on a conservation holding with hiking trails that are great to explore for a morning walk before enjoying a healthy, light breakfast. Finish the day snuggled next to the evening fire under the stars before retiring for the night. Best to make your dinner reservation as early as possible before your desired dining day and time. The season begins in spring when the seaweeds are at their peak, well before the trees have begun to leaf out.

All islands coded as “R” are registered and privately owned. Those listed as “U” are unregistered and held in trust by the State of Maine (some of these may be privately owned but the owners did not register the islands). Islands listed as “E” are exempt from the registry requirements because they are either owned by the state or federal government or have four or more structures on them and were presumed to be privately owned. Islands listed as “T” are held in trust by the state and management transferred to a particular state agency or organization, such as the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (“ME IF&W”).
