In the video, Lil Nas X cradled his baby bump before heading off to the hospital to deliver “baby Montero.” It’s officially the third single off the just-now-released ‘Montero,’ including the ‘Satanic Panic-inducing’ video ‘Montero (Call Me Your Name),’ which saw the singer performing a lap dance for the devil himself. The “Old Town Road” rapper, 22, shared a series of campy photos showing him with a prosthetic pregnancy bump Thursday on Instagram.

Lil Nas X has shocked fans after debuting his “pregnancy baby bump” in several photos he has shared online. The artist’s post was meant to generate buzz for the arrival of his album, “MONTERO” which is due for a fall 2021 drop. In this Instagram post he wrote, “SURPRISE! I can’t believe I’m learn here finally announcing this. My little bundle of joy, “MONTERO” is due September 17, 2020.” He’s grinding people’s gears again with a series of “pregnancy” photos that look like they’re ripped straight off of someone’s demure maternity photoshoot celebrating the beauty of expectant motherhood.
He shared some of the photos on social media, seen below, but the full pregnancy shoot can be found here. Nas X shared his version on Instagram, this time with pregnant men, however. He initially announced his album’s release date with a photo shoot featuring an ethereal X wearing a flower crown and what appears to be a late-third trimester baby bump, reminiscent of Beyonc’s 2017 baby announcement. Just days ago, the rapper decided to recreate Drake’s Certified Lover Boy album artwork, opting to include 12 pregnant man emojis instead of women.

In the clip, two nurses wheel a pregnant Lil Nas X (n’ Montero Lamar Hill) into a hospital on a gurney while the “Industry Baby” singer is in labor with the album. After setting him up in the delivery room, the bumbling hospital workers realize the artist is dilated ‘ and it’s time to push. In celebration of the impending delivery of his “baby” on Sept. 17, the musician, 22, did an over-the-top pregnancy shoot, complete with a bump and flower crown.

Lil Nas explained to the outlet that the light bulb moment came after listening to Meg’s verse on their new song, ‘Dolla Sign Slime,’ for the first time. Along with the record drop arrived a racy new video for the song ‘That’s What I Want,’ in which X plays a football player engaging in locker room romance with a teammate. The video, which now over here has more than 338 million views on YouTube, shows the rapper costumed as various biblical characters while also delivering plenty of sexual undertones. “But I guess the producers who worked on (‘Montero’) are like the dads too,” he said, adding, “Or maybe uncles.” In another pic, he poses with a fur blanket covering him just below the bump.
There were some who were offended by Lil Nas X’s pregnancy imagery, however, saying that he was “going too far” by showing off a photoshopped/prosthetic baby bump. The rapper/singer/songwriter has managed to utilize shock value and controversy like few other artists are able to today. Much has been written about the dearth of homosexual representation in hip-hop, which has only now begun to change. Lil Nas X not only embraces his sexual orientation, but celebrates it and challenges gender norms in ways that appear to simultaneously delight and get a rise out of people. And when comedian Donnell Rawlings posted a since-deleted Instagram asking how he was supposed to explain the pregnancy photos to his son, Lil Nas X said he was “screaming.” Lil Nas X included photos of himself cradling his stomach along with an ultrasound of the “Montero” album cover artwork.
Critics felt his new floral images were too “cringe,” but his fans instantly embraced his creative shoot. Lil Nas X retweeted one fan that wrote, “he took submissive and breedable to a new level fr.” There were many who insisted that he was “making fun” of pregnancy, and the post was misogynistic. He even set up a baby registry, which he is using as a platform for his fans to donate to LGBTQ and human rights nonprofit organizations. “SURPRISE! I can’t believe i’m finally announcing this. For good measure, he also posted an edited image of his album cover imposed onto an ultrasound pic. For example, in the music video for “MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)” the rapper gives Satan a juicy lap dance. He also hit the devil theme hard with his limited-edition Satan Nikes that apparently were made with a bit of real human blood ‘ and only 666 of them were made for added collectible, devilish delight. Lil Nas X responded by saying people need to realize that he’s “not a representation of anyone but lil nas x.” Although no one showed up to celebrate him, guests ‘ including Doja Cat, Elton John and Megan Thee Stallion ‘ all sent in gifts.
