As you can easily notice in the diagram, you need to frame the door opening. Install the side and corner trim as shown on my sources illustration using 2″ finishing nails. Illustration above shows a close up look of the front and back wall frame ends.
Make sure you cut the studs and the plates at the right dimensions. Drill pilot holes through the plates and insert 2 1/2″ screws into the studs. Place the studs every 24″ on center, making sure the corners are square and the edges flush. The east side wall is built with twelve 2’4 wall studs at 7′-4 1/2″ length, spaced 16″ apart on center.
When planning, you will not want to fill your shed to 100% capacity. Keep in mind that you need space to walk and maneuver items around. Failure to leave yourself a little wiggle room will result in a lack of functionality and potentially damage the items stored inside. One of the perks of a 10’12 storage building is that most municipalities do not require a permit for shed this small. However, it is still essential to check with your local Planning and Zoning and Homeowner’s Association to make sure.
And before you begin, make sure you have all the proper tools and materials you will be needing in advance. Measure, cut, and install the 1/2″ plywood for the roof deck. Build the plain side wall for the shed using the same technique described above. Place the studs every 24″ on center and align the edges flush. This shed has, arguably, the highest functional walls on the whole list. With its 8’1″ height, it is the only shed having enough room for a garage door to function properly. You will need at least 5 pieces of 4’4, 2 here pieces of 2’6, and 6 pieces of 2’4 for this project. The 4x4s will serve as the skids, while the 2x6s are for the floor joists.
